Baby Boxster? Speculation About a New Entry-Level Porsche 356

So you want a Porsche Boxster, but your working with limited garage space.  Well, Porsche may just have you covered.  The head of the Volkswagen Group, Martin Winterdorn, revealed the possibility of a new entry level Porsche model.  It's being called the 356 and will enter the lineup below the Boxster and Cayman.   The details are far from concrete at this point.  Speculation was initiated by this comment from Winterdorn, ""The Porsche model range is firmly based on the 911, Boxster, Cayenne and Cayman, and it will stay that way. We are also investigating opportunities for a smaller sports car and a smaller SUV - but I cannot say more at the moment."  In addition, when asked how likely the new models were to make production he answered: "Let's just say we do not usually waste our effort?"

In England, the new baby Porsche would cost about £33,000, which means nothing to us here in the U.S. and is about what a base Boxster costs. That said, the article mentions the possibility that the next generation Boxster and Cayman might go way up scale.  The new 356 will share a transmission with the R4.  Again this is all just talk at this point, but stay tuned to your Porsche Virginia Beach dealer, Checkered Flag Porsche for all the updates.  If they build it, you will know.   In the mean time start clearing out a corner of your garage, just in case.
