Audi Dealer's Brilliant Billboard Warns Of R8 GT Sale

A Chicago-area Audi dealer has pulled off the rare hat trick of combining a manufacturer ad, a public-service announcement, and some serious ego gratification for an R8 GT customer by putting up this billboard.

Here's how achtung697 explains this image over on Reddit.

    "My friend's dad got himself the new Audi R8 GT. The dealership he bought it from decided to make this billboard ad. They are doing it right!"

Audi has played games with cheeky billboards before, but this may mark a new high in public customer appreciation. A quick reminder about proper lane discipline is never a bad thing, either.

Audi A6 Thermal Night Vision Video

Okay.  This is seriously cool. 

The all-new 2012 Audi A6, available here at Checkered Flag Audi, is sporting some of the latest innovative technology in the automotive world.  Now we can thank them for making even Halloween a little safer for all our little monsters.  Introducing the 2012 Audi A6 with thermal imaging night vision assistant.

Powered by thermal imaging technology, Audi night vision assistant can detect pedestrians up to 300 feet away. This Halloween video was filmed using a new A6 with night vision assistant and the system's thermal imaging camera. No special effects were used.

And that's not all the Audi A6 has to offer.  Aluminum-hybrid construction and Audi quattro all-wheel drive keep the A6 nimble and safe on the pavement, while the advanced Audi adaptive cruise control including a blind spot warning system keeps your family safe.  Of course, we can't leave out the importance of entertainment upgrades including Audi connect, which turns your A6 into a hotspot for you and your passengers.

2012 Audi A5 Cabriolet Gets Local Review

If you pick up the Sunday edition of The Virginian Pilot, you may have noticed a familiar Checkered Flag Audi standout, the 2012 A5 Cabriolet, featured in the Drive section.  Although the new A5 Cabriolet has had its fair share of national attention, it is especially nice to have a firsthand review from a local Hampton Roads driver, Larry Printz. 

How did it go?  Well, read ahead.

AUDI A5 CABRIOLET TAKE A GRAND TOUR

   Even before I drove it, the Audi A5 Cabriolet passed the toughest test any convertible faces: How does it look when the top is raised? While many convertibles flunk this test, the Audi sports an invitingly upscale appearance that whispers, "Yes, I am gorgeous, I am expensive and I am worth it."

   That's especially true of the top itself, which is made of cloth, rather than metal. By eschewing this current fashion trend, Audi designers could avoid the swollen, bulbous trunk that afflicts so many hardtop convertibles. Instead, the A5 looks like a modern classic.

   Even better, the top folds in a mere 15 seconds.

   Once stowed, the A5's high-quality interior quality can be seen, with a large screen in the center of the instrument panel. Strangely, the knob and buttons that control it are not on the center console. Instead, they're tucked up under the screen where they're hard to use. Ordering the navigation system moves the controls to where they should be. But this car didn't have it, despite its as-tested price of $50,170.

   It also lacked a push-button starter, blind-spot detection, parking sensors, Bang & Olufsen sound system and a rear back-up camera. They're available, but you must opt for the Prestige Package, rather than the Premium or Premium Plus Package.

   But the front seats are roomy and comfortable. The rear seats are a little less so due to a rather upright seatback.

   As with other Audi models, you have a choice of front-wheel drive or Quattro all-wheel drive. In front-drive models, a continuously-variable automatic transmission is standard. Given the unusual shift characteristics of a CVT, I'd opt for the all-wheel-drive model, which gets an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic that can be shifted manually.

   Audi's ubiquitous turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, rated at 211 horsepower is the A5 Cabriolet's sole powerplant. If you want more ponies, you'll have to opt for the $58,450 S5 Cabriolet; it has a 333-hp 3.0-liter supercharged V6 mated to a dual-clutch manual gearbox.

   Still, don't go looking to bait sports cars; this is very much a relaxed grand touring car. The A5 I drove, which tipped the scales at 4,034 pounds, takes 7.2 seconds to reach 60 mph. Even the S5 Cabriolet takes 6.6 seconds.

   You may not notice because the A5's handling is so sublime. Its firm ride has enough suppleness to make the ride pleasant. There's a modest bit of body lean, but it's not objectionable.

   There's little body vibration when the top is lowered, and there's more trunk space than you might expect.

   To appreciate the Audi A5 Cabriolet is to realize what it really is: lifestyle gear. It says something about you, your taste and your economic status. For those who value refinement, great design and a luxury nameplate, Audi's A5 Cabriolet fits the bill.

Not too shabby, huh?  And, no, we didn't bribe Mr. Printz to say all those nice things about the A5.  I especially appreciate that he points out the look of the A5 Cabriolet with the top up.  It is hard to make a ragtop, or a hardtop convertible look good year round, but, Audi does it well (see below).

Cars and Coffee Event CANCELLED

Unfortunately, Mother Nature isn't agreeing with our plans to hold the final Hampton Roads Cars and Coffee event tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 17th.  Organizers have decided that since there is a forecast of 80% chance of rain, the outdoor event will be postponed or cancelled.

Over the past couple of years, Hampton Roads Cars and Coffee sponsored by Checkered Flag, has become a local hit with each event getting larger and larger!  Tire kickers and car enthusiasts come from all seven cities and beyond to sip a couple of cups of Joe, sample a few snacks, and share their beloved rides and racers with other local auto enthusiasts-like this guy:

All Hampton Roads auto and/or java lovers are asked to bring their own hot rods, classics, exotics, and even motorcycles to the gathering, which has been known to draw crowds of hundreds!  In addition, Checkered Flag will be rolling out some of its finest sets of wheels for your perusal.   Don't expect to see your everyday ordinary stuff here people, we're talking the goods! 

Vehicles from Checkered Flag Jaguar, Porsche, Audi, BMW, and MINI customers are all expected to make an appearance. The entire event is free, including the coffee and snacks, so bring out your friends and family and as many vehicles as you please.

Our final Hampton Roads Cars and Coffee event is taking place Saturday, September 17th with a rain date of September 24.

New 2012 Audi A6 Has Arrived

Yowza! That's a good looking ride.

The new 2012 Audi A6 has finally arrived at Checkered Flag Audi.  The Hampton Roads heat isn't the only thing steaming up our Virginia Beach Audi pavement.  The new 2012 A6 is causing whiplash along the boulevard.
 
This new 2012 Audi A6 may look like its predecessor, but the updates are making headlines.  Let's start with the fact that in addition to the supercharged V6, this 2012 A6 will also be offered in a four-cylinder engine model that boasts the top gas mileage in its class at 33 miles per gallon.  Next, check out the technology upgrades including stop-and-go cruise control, touchpad interface, and internet connection.  Oh, and you know that too-good-to-be-true self parallel parking feature you may have seen on recent high end auto commercials?  Well, it has that too!
