Preparing for Hurricane Irene

Here we go again Hampton Roads.  It is time to batten down the hatches!!  A great squall is a comin'!

Seriously folks, it's time to head out to the grocery store and stock up on the staples.  I've just gotten word that there is a good chance we're going to be in for some terrible weather this weekend.  This not-so-ladylike Hurricane Irene is whipping through the Atlantic with an attitude.  Most weather reports our showing our hometown right in her path.

Summer Safety: Engine Overheat

Here we go, folks, another year of that same old wonderful August in Tidewater weather.  Crazy hot and humid days are followed by spectacular firework-like lightning storms.  This past week we had temps over 100, flash flooding, and even funnel clouds.  If you're like me, you've been battening down the hatches, checking the batteries in the flashlights, and keeping an inventory of water and sunblock that the army would appreciate.

So, I'm sure you all have your homes and families equally weather-proofed, but what about your vehicles.  Mother Nature can take quite a toll on our four-wheeled…

How Long Should Tires Last?

Are you one of our Checkered Flag drivers that wears through tires faster than you get through a tube of toothpaste?  Well, you could be having a run of bad tire purchase luck; tires are one of those items where you pay for what you get.   However, more likely, it's your own fault!

Sounds harsh, I know, but it is absolutely true that your driving style and vehicle upkeep can have major effects on the longevity of your rubber buddies.  If you caught a glimpse of the Drive section of the Virginian Pilot this morning, you've already seen…

Hurricane Earl Update and Interactive Guide

Okay, Checkered Flag Winners,  I know you have all been waiting on the edge of your desk chairs for me to get back to you today, well, here I am, but unfortunately, I don't have any better news than yesterday.

I've got an official Checkered Flag Hurricane Watch 2010 update for you, and it does not look great.  I thought for sure the track for Hurricane Earl would have changed today, but it has not at all, or very little, depending on the weather source.  Horrible Hurricane Earl is still headed our way, and now, behind him is…

Batten down the hatches!!  A great squall is a brewin'!

Seriously folks, it's time to head out to the grocery store and stock up on the staples.  I've just gotten word that there is a good chance we're going to be in for some terrible weather this week.  This nasty fellow, Hurricane Earl is tearing through the Atlantic as we speak, and some weather reports are putting the bulls eye right on Hampton Roads for Earl's landing spot.

With all of the back-to-school sales going on this week, it is easy to get excited thinking about cool fall temperatures ahead.  Unfortunately, living here in Hampton Roads, we are all too well aware that the summer is nowhere near its end.  Crazy hot and humid days continue to be followed by spectacular firework-like lightning storms.  This past week we had temps over 100, flash flooding, and even funnel clouds.  If you're like me, you've been battening down…
